Background and Philosophy
In addition to my experience as a practicing engineer, I am also an experienced engineering educator and administrator. My experience includes teaching in traditional engineering programs, as well as engineering technology programs. I have also taught continuing education courses, one of which was taught nationally for the American Society of Civil Engineers.
I am design oriented in my approach to teaching. I believe that for many engineering students, theory is easier to understand if it is focused on practical application, and I bring extensive practical experience to the classroom, which I believe enhances my effectiveness as an educator. I am familiar with the basics of educational psychology and endeavor to apply teaching methods to target the different learning styles of individuals.
My experience provides me with valuable insight into the qualifications and attributes that business and industry are looking for in engineering graduates. The level of experience I bring to the classroom not only reinforces my credibility with the students, but also is an attribute that is considered desirable by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
